I'm fascinated by this kind of abduction in particular (see also: the movie Room). I'm also fascinated by the process of the abductee's reintegration to normal life -- they are a new person who must step into the life of someone who is effectively dead, and the people closest to them often do not take well to that, no matter how hard they try to understand. They can't, and it frustrates them that they can't, and they express that frustration in ways that only further the distance between them and the revenant wearing the face of their loved one.

I didn't expect the mystery that starts to unfold at around the midway point of this book, but that added a delicious dimension as I tried to figure out who, exactly, was responsible. To know that this was not random -- this was premeditated, and by someone close to her -- has to be both agonising and freeing. Man, what a piece of fucking work that Lorraine is...

The scene with Gary and Annie in the motel room was unexpectedly one of the hottest things I'd ever read. I am not complaining and I will be thinking about it constantly for the next three weeks.

This was a very good book. I enjoyed the way the story is being told through her conversations with her "shrink".

I could have done w/o the ending, but it did keep me guessing until the bitter end...

This was a excellent  book about a Realtor who gets kidnaped at a open house and it's intense. So many horrible things happen so many twits and turns. The ending never saw that coming. It's a really good book.

My second Chevy Steven's book and I'm a fan of hers and will read them all. I just like the writing style and the twists are always just a little out there and give ya a pop.

WOW! I rarely give 5* to a thriller, but I was completely transfixed by this stunning debut. Annie O’Sullivan is a young real estate agent in a city on Vancouver Island BC, who is abducted from an open house one sunny August Sunday. The story is told in first person, as Annie relays to her psychiatrist what happened to her during her year of captivity. Interspersed with the story of the time she was held prisoner by a psychopathic rapist, is Annie’s story of survival, her efforts at helping the police identify her abductor, and her attempts to rebuild her life and her relationships – with her boyfriend, her best friend, her mother. The ending is a surprise I did not see coming. Tight writing, great story line, an emotional roller coaster. I started it Saturday afternoon and quit reading only when my eyes were so blurry I couldn’t see to read. I picked it up again first thing Sunday morning and kept reading, still in my PJs, until I’d finished it.
