This was a excellent  book about a Realtor who gets kidnaped at a open house and it's intense. So many horrible things happen so many twits and turns. The ending never saw that coming. It's a really good book.

This one wasn’t for me. It reminded me a lot of Butterfly Garden which I also didn’t enjoy. I guess I don’t like the interview, retrospectively set books, since both books fall into that category. I also could not stand the redundant use of the word “doc.” Not sure why but the overly repetitive use just irked me. I also didn’t really understand the need for the whole s-x scene with the investigator. It seemed a bit out of place in the storyline and extremely far fetched for a very recent SA victim. In the famous words of the 90’s sitcom: NEXT.

Trigger warning for this book for infant loss, SA, and Physical abuse. The infant loss part of the book was very hard to get through. Don’t read before bed.  But man oh man was this book good. I loved the main character. She’s so human, and I loved how her healing journey was not portrayed as linear.

This really didn’t work for me. The writing was mediocre due to overly explaining things rather than trusting your reader to get it, to clichés and poor metaphors used by the narrator to describe herself, to trying to make the protagonist sound tough but it coming off as forced, and finally to the framing device which I got tired of halfway through the novel.
Although the content is meant to be dark, it didn’t impact me as it should have overall because I didn’t care about the protagonist.
Lastly, the twist ending didn’t add up. It came out of nowhere and felt pieced together by the author as shock value only; sadly it fell flat.
The only reason I’ve given the book 2 stars rather than 1 is because the plot, mainly the first half, was okay.  I think the framing device had a lot of potential that was wasted on a poorly drawn protagonist, weak writing, and a slapdash resolution.
