A hard but incredibly rewarding read. The middle bit drags af and I couldn't actually care less abt charles and lucie- they have proper gavin and Stacey vibes in that everyone else is so compelling and interesting but hey ho. Ripped through the last 100 pages or so and sobbed my eyes out at the end. Think this will be a stellar one to reread/analyse.

Ok, so in my opinion;
First, I thought Dickens was kind of a Dick to the Doctor's family. I don't really see the message behind torching and torching one family for the sake of some "loved by vengeance" drama queen.
Secondly, I have to say, it was an amazing story. There was a lot of history to be learned and a lot of eye openers to the how cruel humanity used to be.
Lastly, I would have liked to see more of the good family moments. Dickens just breezed over the parts that didn't have too much Value to the story. Like the death of Charles and Lucie's son. I think that was a big moment that but Dickens just added it on as a side note almost cause it didn't really add to the story's overall point.
All in all, very good book and I strongly recommend it.

One of the finest novels I've had the pleasure to read and reread.
Makes me shed tears at many points. Moving me despite the repeated number of times I have read those incidents.
I can swear that no other villain has instilled in me a terror that is equal to what I feel everytime I read about Madame Defarge. Freezes my bones and shakes my entire being to remember her grit and hardened heart.
