I currently don't have the time nor the interest required to absorb this book. I will say that it had me laughing in many moments, which I did not expect. I had no idea Dickens could be quite funny.

Compliment Sandwich Review:
The Good: I'm giving it 5 stars as it is a classic that holds up mainly for its simplicity. At his heart, Dickens is writing an adventure novel. I can obviously see how comic book writers are influenced by this--especially given the serialized nature and themes of secret identities. It is no wonder that Chris Nolan ripped off huge sections of it for the Dark Knight Rises.
The Bad: Still, I have minor complaints. The dude has a Tolken-esque level of explaining things beyond belief. And some of the sequencing (especially in the final third) could've been flipped in order to maximize suspense. Lastly, at times I think there were instances when a few characters could've been deleted. But again, this are actually really small issues. He has an assured voice and knew what he was setting out to do.
The Good: The social commentary on this still holds up. My reading was that it was a cautionary tale on what happens when people rise up to speak for angry masses, when really they are just outright sociopaths. I dunno. It kind of seems relevant and topical.
Recommended.

a book about revolution and revenge. dark and sad. at times really boring and you’re like why? what’s the point? the answer: the last 10% of the text. your jaw will drop from the shock, you’ll cry rivers, and sydney carton… oh, sydney carton.
a really great detail: madame defarge’s scarf. without context it’s just a piece of clothing, but the meaning behind it — wow.

This was so good!!! I loved the symbolism throughout the whole story and how everything comes together for book 3. Sydney’s character redemption was awesome
The best ending quote to a book ever:
“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known.”
