If there is a single thing I’m sure about is that Lucie made the wrong choice.

This was a challenge to start but I knew I wanted to keep going early on. This was funnier than I thought but I was also on the edge in the last half.
I did use an audiobook while I was reading to help my understanding but hearing the dramatic reading made the ending even better.

That's a pretty awesome novel
I loved the love story and the sacrifice in it
It really describe the mess in French very well
And it shows how revenge could blind people and make them evil and take the best of them

I now have a new favourite literary hero in Sydney Carton. it's not often a book leaves me in tears, but Sydney, you did it.
A mention too for Madame Defarge! That woman is terrifying! I will definitely read this again.

Someone should really look into this Charles Dickens guy he’s pretty good
It was the best of books, it was the worst of books, it was a book I loved (peasants licking wine from the streets of Paris and the general horror of the revolution) it was a book I loathed (too much sympathy for the aristos and the women are monster or saints). It was filled with sentences of eloquence (Crush humanity out of shape once more, under similar hammers, and it will twist itself into the same tortured forms. Sow the same seeds of rapacious licence and oppression over again, and it will surely yield the same fruit according to its kind.). It was filled with sentences of tediousness (There was no pause, no pity, no peace, no interval of relenting rest, no measurement of time. Though days and nights circled as regularly as when time was young, and the evening and the morning were the first day, other count of time there was none.),
Anyway overall too verbose, a good editor could chop it down considerably, but then Dickens was paid by the episode - so its not a surprise. Too unsubtle; Mr Striver, Jerry Cruncher et al, saintly Lucy & the gory Defarges. Much better all round to watch the film with Dirk Bogarde. I'll rate it a 3 - because best outweighed worst.
