This continuation of the Ember series had me still loving Elias and Laia, and being heartbroken about
I loved the focus on Helene in this book, with her warring loyalties, and family issues conflicting with her required loyalty to the empire. She's a villain-coded character who doesn't want to do wrong, and I loved getting to know her better.

As soon as I wake up tomorrow I’ll be starting the final book, but I’m going to be so sad when I have to leave this world.

the reason this book gets a high rating is because of: helene and harper. i absolutely love them. i literally cannot say anything more about it. helene better redeem herself.
also because of shock at cook being mirra, i absolutely did NOT see it coming i was SHOCKED. the mask thing with helene as well. i cannot say i particularly cared for the catcher chapters but other than that it was a good book. i might read the last one
