🤔 I read this book as I saw it on offer on kindle!

📖 Plot: 5 weeks ago, Naomi and Charlie had a huge row and Charlie spent the night with Naomi's sworn enemy, Jessica. Charlie moved back into his mum, Hazel's house, and Naomi was comforted by her best friend Kate. 5 weeks later, their child, Cassie goes missing overnight from her bedroom. Can the police figure out who took Cassie, or will they be too late?

💭 My thoughts: Follows the perspectives of multiple characters, but it's written in third person - not a usual writing style I read so it made a positive change although at times it was hard to follow!
I liked the mention of the family pets as they actually added a lot to the storyline!
I had however figured out who dunnit about 25% through the book but I didn't know the motive and process until much later in the book so there was still an element of surprise.

Started off interesting but went off the rails. Writing is bad, dialogue is bad, and there’s too much internal dialogue and tangential stories. I just don’t care anymore.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book and for letting me take part in this blog tour. I love a good detective series so I was so excited to take part in this tour.

DCI Rachel Hart is called to Naomi's house after her little girl Cassie has gone missing in the middle of the night. Naomi put her daughter to bed Thursday night and when she woke Friday morning, Cassie is not in the house.

I think Naomi was really struggling to cope after her husband cheated on her and with Cassie going missing she is highly unstable. I think deep down she is a good person but is overwhelmed for the majority of this book.

I enjoyed Julia's writing style. There are many red herrings in this book which will keep you guessing for a long time. I had an inclining who actually kidnapped Cassie before it was revealed but I would never have guessed the motivation.

Rachel Hart has a back story that starts to unravel in this book but I look forward to hearing the full story as the series develops. I think Rachel's history does affect her a little in this case and she does seem a little all over the place sometimes. I do like Rachel and I think she is a good detective I look forward to seeing her grow and develop as the series goes on.

I enjoyed the suspense of this. It did keep me engaged and I was wondering throughout who the kidnapper could be. I do think however that mayber the twist was a little bit predictable or maybe it's because I felt that the kidnapper had been revealed just a couple of chapters too early. And I absolutely don't think that our main characters Naomi and Charlie should have ended with all being forgiven. I do agree that he should've had access to his child and then perhaps she wouldn't have gone missing in the first place.
One thing I wasn't a fan of was the narrative of the detective Rachel Hart. I wasn't a fan of her jumping to conclusions and outrightly saying that Naomi must've got angry with Cassie and hit her and that's the reason she ran away, to a terrified woman who's woken up to her child being missing. I understand that she has her own trauma and that she also wanted to cover every avenue of investigation, but come on, it's her first meeting with this woman and no outward evidence has been shown to suggest that this might have happened. It just didn't sit right with me as it is also mentioned several times that this case could be too close for comfort for Rachel as she was abducted as a child herself. Surely she shouldn't have been allowed on this case in the first place but hey ho.
