Disclaimer: women's reproductive systems should not be taboo to write about online because men's sure aren't. I hope this is as much of a safe space as I believe this community to be, and let me review this book (and write the word "vagina") as it's important to bring awareness of this topic via TVM if not open up discussion too.

The Vagina Monologues is an episodic play written by and originally performed by Eve Ensler in 1996. It was later developed into a multi-cast play and published into this book. Through women's stories, thoughts, and survey answers, Ensler developed a provocative monologue (yes, this was a double entendre) for the reader (with a vagina) to learn and re-discover parts of themself that is so taboo in society. For those of you without vaginas, I still extremely recommend this to gain new perspectives and empathy for vagina-owners and all we go through physically, emotionally, and societally.

It's really sad the original monologue was first performed 30 years ago but it's still so relevant. Yes, there's been amazing work done for encouraging women to express their sexuality and feel comfortable doing so, but in terms of sexual violence it doesn't seem like much has changed.

As my friend said: TVM is so effective because it speaks to everyone regardless if this is the first time you've talked about vaginas, or those who are looking to open up a deeper conversation on the topics present in TVM.
