I read these books back to back, and I absolutely love the premise - it's exactly the kind of comfort read I look for!
Book 1:
Seokga is essentially a "nicer" version of Loki. I found myself wishing for more glimpses into his past, particularly the details of his failed coup. Hani is a fascinating, flawed character; her potential felt even greater, and I would have loved to see more of her "marathon" phase and backstory.
The romance was enjoyable, but it left me wanting more. For immortals, they fell incredibly fast and hard without what felt like a truly meaningful emotional connection. Given the book's description as a homage to K-dramas, I had hoped they might unknowingly share a past, especially during their "rebellious" phases. This could have made their strong connection feel much more impactful. On the other hand, the "detective" plot, Somi's character, and Eudon were all flawless.
Book 2:
Kisa felt a bit like a character designed for reader insertion. If the romance with Hani in the first book felt fast and lacked deep emotional connection, this one was even more so. While I understand Kisa needed to be distinct from Hani, her characterisation and development didn't quite do Hani justice. While teased, the "thread" didn't get much exploration.
The "detective" plot in this installment also felt lacking - the culprits were glaringly obvious, and the characters seemed even less like gods and immortals than in the first book. However, much like the first, the side characters were amazing. I literally screamed with delight when I realised that Somi was back!
I'll definitely read book 3 if there's one!

I absolutely adored this book, even better than book one, which was fantastic. From the start, Seokga was his classic self: funny and charismatic and full of dry, dark humor, while also making my heart hurt over his experiences with the various fraught relationships in his life. I really appreciatd seeing his progress from the first book without losing his edge and snarkiness. You have to read book one to avoid any spoilers but damn did I love this from the start. I was just giddy with how much I enjoyed every moment, heartwarming to sad, hilarious to deeply serious, and everything in between. I predicted the "twist" pretty easily but that didn't lessen my enjoyment at all. Just a delight from start to finish and I can't wait for book three.
