This was a random pick off the New Book shelves at the library. Not usually my thing but I gave it a go. About halfway through I checked the dust jacket and was surprised to find the writer was female. Come on - Courtney could be a guy, right? Anyway - she did a credible job writing a (straight) male protagonist although he was British and an artist so it wasn't much of a stretch to envision him in touch with his feminine side.

The plot deals with infidelity and the husband's remorse over an affair and his attempts to save his marriage. I enjoyed the European culture and settings. The author has lived abroad and her setting details seemed authentic although I have no way of knowing since I have not been abroad YET. For example, I love that the French wife in the story rarely wore perfume during the day as she considered it vulgar. That sounds very French to me.

This book has some interesting insights about long term relationships and growing apart. It stops short (barely) of justifying the husband's fling, and serves up a satisfying amount of agony for him as we wait to discover if his wife will have him back or not. Overall an enjoyable tale if you are into girly relationship stuff.

This book was given to me in one of those free boxes and has set on my shelves for years. In effort to declutter, I decided to pick it up and give it a go.
I enjoyed the book overall and it promotes the themes of trust, love, forgiveness, evasiveness, and compassion. It pushed me as the reader to look and see what it takes to fix a wrong and to ask if it’s ultimately worth fixing.

Enjoy this book for what it is - a well written romantic comedy.

Utterly heartbreaking and breathtaking - the audio version is a great way to experience this story. The narration made turned what may have been a hard read into something that I could get through. Its a hard story about infidelity, regrets and finally redemption. I usually hate the offender in these types of stories and while his actions pissed me off, hearing things from his (Richard Haddens) POV it really made me want things to work out for him. I think the dialogue between Richard and Ann was brilliantly written and very realistically done. Loved Camille, Richards parents, Ann's parents and Richards Art world. The ending is perfection!

A rollercoaster of emotions

I'm not one to typically read books about love, love lost, or anything related to relationships. I opted for this book when I saw w that it was nominated in one of the categories for Goodreads books of the year.

Reading this, I felt a whirlwind of emotions and I would definitely recommend reading it. It's not your typical book about broken marriages and you never really know what to expect until you're through. Absolutely loved it.

Not sure I loved it, for a couple of reasons. 1. Didn't love the protagonist. Not that you always need to, but I couldn't sympathize too much. 2. Don't like how the overall message deemed infidelity as passable, not so bad, simply a bad milestone in a marriage. 3. Ending was somewhat predictable and not satisfying.

Maybe I'm not as satisfied just because "Us" was fairly similar in plot and message (husband losing wife, trying to get her back, sort of fails the whole time) and I didn't have enough time to cleanse my mental palate. Maybe it's my fault for not choosing a more unique book. Oh well. It was entertaining I suppose.

Ummmm definitely not the male narrator version of Where'd You Go Bernadette - more depressing than self-deprecating humor

Super slow plot and annoying protagonist, but well-written and some of the observations on marriage were spot on.

Almost as boring as Sarah's Key, except I actually finished this one, so there's that.

I read this because I loved "Where'd You Go Bernadette" but it's nothing like that book. I dunno where that comparison came from.
