I liked the relationship dynamics but the progression of the relationship felt a little rushed at times. While the premise of a thief as an FMC was interesting, the background for the character felt a bit haphazard and far-fetched. The MMC’s reasons for being in Ultrup and the nature of his work there were also a bit vague. Everything felt a bit too easy in a story where hardship and struggle for survival are such big themes and forces for these characters. I dislike that it ended on a cliffhanger. Instead of feeling like a complete novel or intentional choice, it felt like it was rushed in the last half and unfinished. I will still read the next installment because I did overall like the story, but I wasn’t as engaged with this one as I have been in Ashwood’s other earlier works.
