I really enjoyed this book! It is very fast-paced and had me on the edge of my seat while reading. I loved the characters and I look forward to seeing how they develop over the rest of the series. I also really enjoyed the worldbuilding and I am eager to know more about the universe this author has created. This book is also having some very important conversations and I think it would make for a great book club discussion. This was an excellent debut and I can't wait to pick up the sequel!

This wasn't my book. I loved the concept of time travel and black queer heroes, but the pacing and structure of this book felt very strange. There was too much going on at the same time, and the prophecy became very repetitive quickly. I also feel like Xavior didn't get much character development at all, even though he is supposed to be one of the main three characters. His arc felt much more like a side-character. This book definitely has potential, but it would need to go through a few more rounds of editing and shortening things down to keep the reader more engaged. I normally don't really read sci-fi so that also might be a big reason why I didn't really like this book. I also wish the book had explored more timezones than just two. I feel like the concept could create a such a nice journey through history, like the Miss Peregrine series from Ransom Riggs.

Can't describe anything without a simile. The similes weren't horrendous, but too much. Maybe I judged too early but it felt very wooden, awkward and I just wasn't feeling the writing.

Rating: 3.5. This book was in my Illumicrate December subscription box, so I didn't pick this book specifically for myself. However, upon reading the synopsis and learning a bit about it, I was excited to get into it. It was overall a good and pleasant read. The plot line was super interesting. The concepts of the multiple worlds and civilizations, fighting an intergalactic war and tyranny, fulfilling ancient prophecies, and the rebirth of magical Heros made the plot intriguing and fun to follow, although I would say the first 150-200 pages had me very confused about what was going on. I enjoyed the characters, but I think they were a bit young for me (the MC being barely 18 and the eldest side MC being 21). I think that is my overall feeling about this book and why it isn't rated higher, the fact that it's just meant for a younger audience (or if that wasn't intended, that's how it came off to me). I did like the discussion about race/racism and queer identity, though sometimes how they came into the dialogue/plot was a bit out of place, in my opinion. That, and the overall scene of finally introducing one of the overall goals for the main character, finding and freeing her sister, felt slightly anticlimactic. I think it had the potential to hit super hard emotionally and rip my heart out, but it just felt a bit rushed and flat. Though I understand the situation the characters were in called for a fast-paced scene, I wish this specific instance had been delved into a bit deeper. Overall, I did enjoy and it is in my collection, I will be looking forward to the next book in the series.
