This started slow, but really picked up in the last half. It got fast paced and creepy quick! I liked the main character development, it made her seem real and not perfectly divine. I liked the twist at the end, and I liked who the bad guys ended up being. Pretty decent, would have been five stars if it had been creepy from the start.

What tangled webs we weave. Except we don't, not really. We're more like unfortunate flies than spiders, never seeing the sticky trap we've wandered into until it's too late.
This was a 4* read right up until the ending (last 10%) which was absolutely bonkers and made the rest of the book even better in retrospect. Easily one of the best thrillers I've read. This book is a wild ride.
I thought Jack was a great protagonist, a crime thriller with an unconventional vicar is not something I've seen before or would have expected to work but it works really well and I was quickly invested in her and her daughter.
The initial premise is fairly straightforward but Tudor gradually adds several other threads to the story. I was concerned that it wouldn't all come together well but man did Tudor did a great job of bringing everything together and ending it in a satisfying way. Like I said, the ending is absolutely bonkers and is definitely one of the best thriller endings I've read.
I also really liked the setting of a small English village with plenty of history in it, it added some extra layers to the story and also makes for interesting dynamics between the minor side-characters.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me a review copy!

It's a good book. I have now read two CJ Tudor books. They are good books. They are not for me. I find the plotting too contrived and inauthentic. The unreliability of her narrators is too reliable. Also I'm not that interested in true psychopaths unless I'm really going to learn something new about them.

This is an intricate multi-layered story with a likeable MC and easy-to-read chapters. Unfortunately I figured out the majority of the “twists” way too early on in the book which detracted from my enjoyment. I felt underwhelmed by the end of it
