Um…I quite honestly don’t have words for this ride I went on. There is nothing likable about our main character—or really any of the other characters. From the beginning I repeated “WTF” every chapter. And I couldn’t actually answer what the F was happening on the plot. Our main character Sera has some mental problems and maybe even some developmental issues based on her chaotic behavior and choices. At minimum she has no social cues. Who just leaves to look for their best friend—a BF that they have never met, spoken to, exchanged emails, NOTHING—because of a hint they may have gone missing?!? And that’s just the beginning of a litany of horrible, horrible choices made. I just don’t even know that I would say my usual “give this a chance” rating because I feel that would be dishonest.
2.5 Stars
Interesting premise and intriguing perspective, but the characters felt two-dimensional, and I just couldn't get emotionally attached to anything happening. IMHO, this would have been better served as a short story.

Great tension building. Strong voice. But Sera was badddd at investigating. The ending didn’t pack as much of a wallop as I would have liked.

Solid debut. Interesting choice to write it in second person, and it was a bit slow/lacking in real danger or tension for a while. But all in all, a solid thrill with something interesting to say.
It was very convoluted. There were a lot of characters that were red herrings, and in being so, it was like
what exactly is happening? Is this person crazy?
And I'm not sure the first/second person stuff didn't make it worse.

Title: If I Disappear
Author: Eliza Jane Brazier
Format: Audiobook
Quick Take: Sera loves true crime podcasts. They give her a sense of control in a world where women just like her disappear daily. She's sure they are preparing her for something. So when Rachel, her favorite podcast host, goes missing, Sera knows it's time to act. Rachel has always taught her to trust her instincts. Sera follows the clues hidden in the episodes to an isolated ranch outside Rachel's small hometown to begin her search. She's convinced her investigation will make Rachel so proud. But the more Sera digs into this unfamiliar world, the more off things start to feel. Because Rachel is not the first woman to vanish from the ranch, and she won't be the last.
Thoughts: The story was well written, the mystery was there but in the end I was left with the "blah" sensation. I was expecting something else from this novel that I just didn't get but it wasn't a bad story. Just kind of meh for me.
