Yeah, it could've been good. It should be. Suffers from a boatload of (likely intentionally) unlikable characters making predictably bad decisions based on inadequately sourced dysfunction. And I took away 1 star for the truly awful wave-a-magic-wand-and-everyone-is-yaay wrap-up (I mean really -WTF?).

I love a family novel but I like them more when at least a few of the characters are...likable? Interesting? I didn't like many people in this book.

A nice light read but with some substance. Slightly long with a quick ending.

2.5 stars

I did enjoy this book, although it took some time to get into it. The prologue was confusing as we hadn't met the characters yet. I actually went back and re-read it after I finished the book. The character POV's were manageable if not a bit uneven. I would have liked to see more from Rachel and less from her mother, who couldn't be bothered to tell the difference between different Caribbean islands. To Elise, St Kitts is no different than St Lucia, St Thomas or St Maarten. For someone who goes to the Caribbean and is an avid cruiser it bothered me how often the ship was referred to as a boat, but that is quite realistic among inexperienced cruisers. However, every family has some dysfunction and the Feldmans were no exception. Everyone was hiding a secret that came out towards the end. I couldn't understand someone who ran up 50K in credit card debt could then go to an expensive rehab for shopping addiction.

Cute, but really could’ve use an editor.

Arrested Development meets the Royal Tenenbaums.

This is my first Elyssa Friedland book. This book was equal parts interesting and equal parts too slow but not slow enough for me to throw the towel in because the interest fact won out. I needed to see where the book was going. I know that sounds like a very strange review but I wanted to be honest. After finishing the book, I can firmly say I enjoyed it and the message of family.
emotional funny

Floating Feldmans tells the story of a not-too-close family reuniting for a cruise celebrating the birthday of the their matriarch.

You get glimpses into family members perspectives - what they think going into the trip, and what they may be hiding - and as the cruise progresses, what does that then mean for their relationships?

For me, this was a quick and fun read. I would have preferred a few less perspectives with more depth and character development. While it grasped some emotional topics, it felt as if it was surface level.
