It was kinky, and Tristan as a traumatized soldier was moving-surprisingly realistic, even-, but in the building of the mystery and drama surrounding Mark, Lyonesse, and whatever subterfuge is also going on here, it was hard to find the balance between kink and moving the other action forward.
This was a nice departure from the MM in both the New Camelot and Thornchapel series. Tristan plays the innocent, brought into a world of debauchery with eyes wide open.
Pros: this is MM at its peak. Sierra writes dom daddies so well, and Mark is no exception. This story toes a fine line of spice and story. Those who have read the prequel have more information going into the story than Tristan and it creates a fun tension - when will the other shoe drop?
Cons: reading this shortly after the prequel (Salt in the Wound) but before Honey Cut came out hungered for more Isolde. This book was necessary to build one side of the triad, but felt like it was lacking that third perspective.
Would absolutely recommend this, especially for anyone who LOVES Sierra Simone’s other works!

I added this book to my TBR list 15 seconds after I finished the first one. As soon as it was available at my library I finished it in about 2-3 days. I loved it. I wanted to see more of Isolde because she doesn't show up until the last 1/3 of the book but I enjoyed getting to know the new character Tristan. I am eagerly awaiting the next book. I think I might even preorder it so I don't even have to wait for the library to get it.
Wheew, she spicy.
I don't know what I expected from this book... but it wasn't this. Which wasn't a bad thing. I think I just went in with a different understanding of the plot.... I thought it would be more Tristan and Isolde and less Tristan and Mark. This book is 99.9% Tristan and Mark, which is great, just don't expect a more literal retelling of Tristan and Isolde.
It was well written and the characters were complex and believable. I did thoroughly enjoy this, though I don't know if I need to read any more in the series.
