This book was fascinating to read. The characters that Simone developed were so great to read about. They’re all so richly developed. I love the inclusion of flaws and struggles that create believable characters. I loved having Tristan’s POV and hearing his inner monologue as he explored Mark’s world. I also really appreciated that Tristan had to go back and reflect on his feelings about his relationship with Mark as he explored what was happening with him and Isolde. Speaking of Mark - there is so much more I want to learn about that man. Then there’s the wonderfully written intimate scenes. Say what you want but Simone knows how to write spice. Amidst the really strong character driven book, it’s easy to forget there’s another plot at play, and I’m really curious to learn more about the attack along with those involved in orchestrating it. We only scratched the surface, and I feel like it goes deeper than we think. While I eyeball read 75% of this one, I finished it out with the audio once it came available. I thought the narration was really well done and balanced Tristan’s struggles perfectly. I also appreciated that Reyes didn’t go over the top during the intimacy since it can go from an interesting scene to cringe real quick depending on the narration. I’m really excited for the next book in the series.

DNFed at 50%. I love her writing style and I loved the idea of this book but it just wasn’t what I was expecting. Still haven’t met the female character and I thought that would be a decent chunk of the book based off the description.
This is my fault for not fully reading about the book beforehand, but I’m not here for an MMF. Moving on.
