Having felt compelled to finish it in less than the course of a week, this book has made me want to read Proust, Shakespeare, and Homer. Oh, and also the sequel, Olympos.
I finished this book several days ago and I'm still mad about it. This book has no actual significant plot, just a million weird details and references to Shakespeare. It's as if Dan Simmons asked "What if this book had ___?" 500 times and decided to throw in every single piece. Some characters exist for most of the book only to say "isn't that weird?" and then those characters suddenly have wild changes of personality and perspective without a believable reason. I almost quit reading several times, but I'm such a big fan of Hyperion that I had faith that the story would turn into something, but it never did. The book is way too punishingly long for the lack of payoff.
