not gonna lie, this whole book was very "cool motive, still murder".
I don't really care about the nun and priest, they can rot.

nan... is maximally unlikable despite her very tragic past. I honestly would have respected the author more if she'd leaned into the assholeness of nans actions and relationship.

also, I agree with other reviewers that the narration is Bad. lots of "i imagine" interspersed with random 3rd person interludes and odd side characters that make the plot feel even MORE contrived than it already is. I really really wish the author had just picked one. Honestly, if Nan wasn't the narrator, this book would probably improve by at least 1 star.

I will not be reading another book by this author any time soon.

An interesting premise fell short of the mark for me on this one. The plot felt convoluted, trying to be its own book while also trying to be a Christie mystery. The constant jumping around of time was confusing. That all may be my own fault for not paying attention enough while I was packing, but what definitely wasn’t on me was the mystifying POV. It’s supposedly first person narrative, but then it suddenly switches to third with no warning? Or the first person narrator tries to explain how she knew these things, even if she wasn’t there?? It made no sense to me. Almost DNF, but it was a quick read anyway.

This really would have been better entirely separate from Agatha Christie, it was a strong enough story on its own, and the link to Christie’s disappearance just felt incredibly tenuous and unnecessary

What a twisted tale of love! What does a woman do when her husband leaves her for his mistress? She disappears and uncovers a horrible past act that has impacted her future.

This was my first read for my book club. Found the fist 2/3rds of the book a nice read but not enthralling , however, I loved the last third of the book. I didn't see the plot twist coming so found that once it was revealed the pace really picked up for me. Found the story interesting as I didn't know about Agatha Christie's disappearance and I think it did a good job at portraying the beliefs and stigmas present at the time of the incident. At the beginning I didn't like the character of Nan, however, finding out about her backstory made me understand her reasons behind her behaviour and actions, actually finding me slightly warm to her at the end of the novel despite her choices.
