THE DBT worksheet and handout manual that is used by all DBT therapists and groups.

Many of the skills seem "common sense" and I have found some clients push back a little thinking they are being told something "too easy". My main advice is practice, practice, practice. If you buy this book and follow all of the worksheets and handouts you will notice benefit in your life. The pages are broken down into four modules - distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness and emotion regulation. Many of the skills need repeated practice to settle in and become second nature. Do them when you are feeling less emotional (or wise mind as the book suggests). Get used to doing them, then you can access them in the moment.

Some clients believe DBT is cultish in its approach but it is formulaic and easy to follow. The book aims to help behavioural change that lasts - it is not a passive book that you read once and problems are solved. This requires huge amount of work and effort but it works when you put in the time and energy.
