I won't get too indepth with this review because they are a couple of novellas, but I'll just say that this fell a bit flat for me. The Roma and Juliette story had it's cute moments but overall was very boring - it's just old characters learning the information we already know. The saving grace to these novellas was definitely the second book with Benedikt and Marshall. It was something different with more of a mystery-vibe than the rest of the series which was very refreshing. There were a lot of cute moments and still enough plot to keep things moving. It was not the strongest mystery, but that is hard to do in so few pages. I think I mostly liked that it seemed to step a bit outside of the overarching plot which I was less interested.

Cute little novella. Glad it’s included in the series’ storytelling. Highly recommend to read it since it gives a lot of context for what will be addressed in Foul Heart Huntsman.

“it didn’t matter that he had her forever and ever to kiss, past death and into whatever afterlife existed.”

going into this book without having read our violent ends was a bit of a blindfolded attempt, but one that wasn’t a complete waste as i was honestly originally expecting. if you seclude chloe gong from her spiraling, hyperambitious x-men storylines merged with easy, digestible, people-pleasing politics, she’s not… a bad author. (i think?) the domestic romajuliette scenes were so, so cute!! and the tenderness they hold for each other was so heartening to read. it made me look at them with something akin to fondness, and was such a fun book overall that i could hardly stop smiling from the first page, no, first paragraph, no, first word of the novella. i’m not going to say it was smooth writing, or even very original, but for only a couple of short stories, it worked! and i think finally finally, this will be the last of chloe gong i’ll be reading of, but i’m very happy it ended with such a soft book, with nothing but warmth and heartcatching intimacy, and new beginnings highlighting the pages as it ended. thank you to margaret k. mcelderry books for the arc!

Absolutely loved these short stories! They were so full of love, banter, action, and mystery. And not only for fun, they provide some great insights and extras to the original story line as well.
