really good!!! i really liked bethan getting her revenge and i loved the magic and also that she had complicated feelings on hurting people that hurt her contrasting drina's idea of oh it is so necessary. i also loved learning more about romani culture bc ive never read a book focused on it before!! on the other hand i feel like the pacing was a little weird like the event that the plot hinges on kind of doesn't happen until nearly halfway through. but it was still good

This gave such a good representation of the awfulness of SA. I had expected it to be more vigilante revenge style based on the summary, but it was much more of exacting the price she was owed. I love how the culture was represented and how much it played into the story, from the forbidden love she's falling for, to the place of honor for Gran, to how the community supports each other.
The imagery of the bird, the shadow, and the snake that was used to build tension, and then used in a different metaphorical way to show the act without showing it was brilliant. I also totally didn't see the twist of Gran being Bethan's mother coming at all. It makes sense for the story and helps build empathy for Gran and connection between her and Bet.
