Read along with my 5th grader. I didn’t realize until recently that Hiaasen wrote middle school level books. I’ve always found his humorous writing style entertaining and have enjoyed his adult books for a good quick read. This was no different. The story is entertaining and insightful with all the wit and humor you can find in his adult books. Both my son and I enjoyed reading this.

This one is fun. Good characters. (But I never want to move to Florida - ugh.)

i was reading this book for a summer school class i was teaching and then i quit without notice so i didn’t need to finish it

This was such a fun and humorous kids book. You can see the books age a bit, but it doesn’t change the readability. Or believability.

So the conservation aspect of this book was wild. A) because conservation did win out in the end. But b) because people not getting permits and sweeping things under the rug does happen a lot.

As both a marine biologist and an environmental permitter for the state of Florida, there was a lot of fun to be had with this book.

This book is painfully dorky. I bought neither the adult characters as adults, nor the kid characters as kids.

I tried to get into this book, but I just couldn't. It moved too slowly for me.

My 7 year old and I enjoyed this story of kids standing up for what was important for them. Hoot is a good introduction to the power of words and crowds. As a parent, I particularly appreciated the equally strong male and female characters.
