A book for your budding environmentalist. There are also good interactions with peers including bullies. I think this book would most be enjoyed by kids who are connected to their outdoor environment and the many treasurers found there.

Fiction, YA

This was an oregon battle of the books book in 6th grade. This was such a fun story. It’s about this boy who moves to a new town and while he is on the school bus he sees this boy running barefoot. he goes to find this boy and discovers that he has been sabotaging a construction site for a new restaurant because it is home to some owls. So they work together and save the owls. this definitely helped radicalize me so it obviously gets points for that lol for real though loved this book it was so good.

Wow. Such a great book. There are parts in a book when you get bored of reading but not with this book. I really love this book. I think im going to make my future children read it!

A reread, but still as much fun the second time through. Burrowing owls FTW.

Set in Florida. Fun characters and inspirational story

Fun, fast read. Entertaining plot and a likable main character: "All he had to do was settle the argument between his heart and his brain."

it was so cute how he wanted to save the owls =D

One day on the school bus, while being beat up by school bully Dana Matherson, Roy Eberhardt notices a strange boy running barefoot next to the bus. Roy is instantly curious about who the boy is, and is determined to learn about him and help him. Meanwhile, in another part of town, the construction of a new location for Mother Paula’s Pancake House is severely delayed by a series of pranks and vandalisms on the construction site. Roy’s pursuit of the mysterious boy will lead him to the construction site, new friends, and the rescue of tiny burrowing owls. Hoot is a environmentally-themed mystery, filled with a cast of strange and unforgettable characters.

Working in the library, I always see this book pass through my hands. I am glad a finally read it! Hoot is as funny as it is heartwarming, and I really enjoyed all the characters. While it is a mystery, it is pretty light-hearted and silly enough to appeal to tweens and teens.

Boy, did I get a HOOT out of this one!
