Got this one out of the way, still curious as to how it develops in other books.
I first read this book as a teenager and I remember loving it. Reading it now and I love it still (possibly more?). But I’m having these interesting realizations that this book subconsciously affected me, and my life path more than I realized. I studied anthropology in school and I think this book was a big influence in drawing me to that field. Now in my current field of work, I draw on that anthropology based view constantly. So not only do I love this book as it is- I don’t think I’d be the person I am, with the specific life I’m living without it (and other references that guided me when I was young).
This book is so good, but you absolutely cannot go into it expecting another Ender's Game unless you want to be bitterly disappointed. It's mostly philosophical and anthropological; there is very little action. You could consider it a book of ideas. It is so much wider than EG in its scope, and much, much deeper. This is a book that will leave you thinking about it for days. It's definitely one of my favorites.
