I'm trying to read through all my old favorites to see if they're still favorites. I still loved this one, although I'm not sure if I had read it for the first time today if it would still be a favorite. But maybe.
I still had a hard time putting it down. I love the characters, I got a bit teary, and I still think it's a meaningful book. Nothing like Ender's Game (my all-time favorite book), but still a great book for fans of Ender.

There is no Battle School, no bloody fights in shower rooms, no games to be played, but Speaker of the Dead is an evolved, grownup story for evolved, grownup Ender to tell as he figures out how to reconcile with the Buggers, the species he (nearly) wiped out entirely, and the Little Ones, a new group of strangers that want desperately to know and be known.
Ender, and the people of Lusitania, grapple with what it means to be a stranger and a friend, what it means to be saved, and the precious transition from life to death and beyond. A highly philosophical and anthropological addition to the Enders Game series, I adored this book.

Oh my God. Enders Game was good enough that I wanted to read the rest of the series, but this book completely blew me away. Card handles each character with such love and compassion and the result is a novel that is every bit as stunning and intelligent as it is heart wrenching. I’m so glad this got recommended to me!!
Lacks the intensity of Ender's Game, but the plot and themes are well-conceived. Card perhaps works just a little too hard to make sure you get the message, but overall this does not detract from the ambitious scope of the story.

This is the combination of an episode of Star Trek and a miniseries about a therapist visiting a small catholic town.
