I’ve read better books, but this is way better than A Silent Patient. One bit I thought was predictable, but overall I enjoyed my time.
I wanted to love this book because I’m a huge fan of the author’s podcast, but it is so painfully obvious that she’s never lived outside of the North East… her attempt to to tackle a setting, culture, and people as rich as New Orleans fell so flat and was reduced to shallow stereotypes. It was painful. Probably my least favorite book of the year.

Just because you have a true crime podcast does not mean you can write a fictional serial killer book.
The killer tries to come off clever but instead acts like some edgelord.
The writer obviously has never been to New Orleans and does an awful job describing it.
Dialogue is booty.
The twist is dumb.
I am a Morbid fan and I was greatly disappointed in this book.

I made it through chapter 26 and noped away quickly.
Although this is a debut novel, due to the author's situation, I'd expected better writing, better plotting, and characters with some depth but I feel that perhaps the editorial staff pulled all the punches with this one.
The good news: This made me yearn for Kay Scarpetta. I think I'll start that series over from the beginning and catch up on all the recent ones I've not read.

Serial killer in the bayou. Goes after ME because she got away in med school. Pt.1
It’s a super quick read with lots of great details and characters. No idea what anyone looks like though and there were some difficult details - like the timeline… it was referred to several times as “… all those years ago…” but it wasn’t that long ago.
There were many moments of intense suspense and the author definitely brought the ick factor! Good freshman effort!
