I actually really enjoyed the story! It was genuinely incredibly interesting following Kathy and her friends and their journey to discovering the truth about their school and their lives, and it truly was a page turner.

It was a bit confusing at times, mainly because of certain phrases or terms used when no explanation has been given prior, but it was okay, as generally it was explained later, or I was able to figure it out eventually.

Definitely recommend for a suspenseful, unique read.

What does it really mean to be human? To love? This story tore my heart out and made me really think about how special a life can be.

Much like Klara and the Sun, this novel is a slowly unraveling dystopia where horrifying truths lay just underneath a sweet narrative about love and friendship. Yet, where Never Let Me Go is differs is that it is unrelenting. It squashes any possible hope, leaving the reader heartbroken and with as little choice in the matter as its characters.

Kazuo Ishiguro’s talent is making the most disturbing reality feel almost normal — but what is even more terrifying than that is the thought that if it was our reality, it would probably feel normal to us, too.

This is my first read of 2024 and it’s been a good start. I read some reviews while updating my page numbers, and I was interested by the mixed takes on how a lot of the book is reflecting on the past. This is not a book that takes you forward. It takes you back.

There are parts of the story that I feel are incomplete. Some of my questions don’t have answers which is frustrating! However, I really enjoyed the story and how it was framed. I will be looking into more Ishiguro.
