A good story if, like most comics, rather slight.

I'm still pretty new to Black Panther, having seen the movie and read exactly one comic book in the Rise of the Black Panther series. I feel like I'm missing something. Why is Shuri the queen now? And what happened to her? I feel like I'd have appreciated this more if I knew more about the background story. I liked Ayo and Aneka's love story, especially the end, but clearly I need to brush up on my Wakandan history.

Full transparency: I'm not a superheroes comic person, and I read this because I said I would, for work. Appreciate the f/f romance, but since I don't have the Wakanda history, aside from seeing the Black Panther movie, this was disjointed and difficult to follow. Definitely doesn't work as a stand-alone, imo.

Interesting, but overly dense in all it sets up. Plot points lack finesse while character work is conversely strong. Took me a long time to finish this and I don’t think I’ll be reading more.

Gay and Harvey are off to a good start. Looking for to seeing what'll be next for Ayo, Folami and the rest of the Dora Milaje.

All I wanted was MORE Ayo and Aneka. So much that I resented the other story lines and really could have lived without them.
Wakanda forever.
Ayo and Aneka forever.

Snapshots of life as a Dora Milaje and the beginning of a romance between two of the formidable women among them.

While it was interesting getting a glimpse of this aspect of Wakanda, I'm not sure if I'm interested enough to keep reading this series.
