Tenía mis retincencas hacia este personaje por culpa de la película de Disney, pero cuando logré vencerlas descubrí una tierna historia llena de magia y sentido del humor.
Peter Pan es, en efecto, un niño que no quiere crecer. For some reason my child's 3rd grade class is reading this dusty old book together. I have never read it but saw the animated one at least once, so I knew there was some awful stuff in it. I figured I should probably read it too to better manage questions about racism and sexism from my kid, and to decide if I should fight her teacher.
Peter is a little sexist shithead bully. Yes, there are horrible slurs all throughout this whole book. A few sentences made me audibly gasp. It's a horrid little book that doesn't deserve the celebration it gets.

There are culturally insensitive bits, but with some 21st century updates, this could be a lovely children’s tale full of magic and fun. It would be a lovely lyrical story to read to one’s children. And it made me sentimental for my childhood, and my daughter’s.
