enjoyed the coming-of-age theme mixed with magical folky-ness and some creepy freud in there. the fourth star is dedicated to Nakata the bestest goodest character.

ugh i should have known it would have an inexplicable ending.

it was weird but not really weird. just a lot of weird sex. taboo topics. i couldnt really like kafka.

nakata and hoshino saved it for me. and of course i LOVED the pop culture and classical music references.

i don’t know what to think of it, and i can’t quite say what it means, but reading it made me feel the whole range of emotions at the same time as kafka, and i think the book let me take what i wanted from it, even though i don’t know what that is. i‘ll probably revisit it soon to underline & think about it some more. reminded me a lot of die unendliche geschichte, but maybe that’s just the incessant michael ende in my head & recency bias
