I truly wish I had never read this book. It was generally well written, but the contents were so disturbing that I am still shaken a week later.

I also found the whole "lesbian yearns to be impregnated" thing to be extremely reductive, especially coming from a male author. IDK, seemed like a weird fantasy that the author was putting on these queer characters.

A quick read, and kind of like passing a car wreck. You know things aren't going to end well, but you just can't stop, which is a testament to LaRocca's writing. At the same time, while I couldn't put it down, I wasn't really satisfied from a plot angle, a common weakness in epistolary-style stories. Will I read it again? Probably not. Will I think about it whenever I make an apple pie? It will haunt my baking like a ghost.

Triggers are about, so if you're considering picking it up, please check out the CW section.

There’s a reason objects burn up when they fall to earth like gruesome angels — a reason other than the obvious one. Asteroids the size of armored cars narrow to mere pebbles in a matter of seconds. It’s because the planet is a carnivore and just wants to be fed. People want that as well. People like to eat other people.
I spent so many years forgetting I had teeth, too.

Unnecessarily gross. The story being told within the frame of a true crime case is what held the book together, in my opinion. A trainwreck you can’t help but watch.
