A fairy tale in which the princess has no unusual beauty or charm. Simple and innocent, suitable for any age, but unlikely to be terribly popular in a day when "edgy" is preferred.
A witty little book about a princess whose fairy gift of ordinariness made her contently normal and her parents comically frustrated. It would be a great book to read aloud to young girls.
My mother gave me this book when I was young. It has always meant a lot to me. Even the ordinary can be princesses.
Quick easy read. Definetely a childrens book. I'd have my daughter read it I suppose. Nothing to shout about though.

My new goal in life is to get every little girl I know to read this book.
It's the story that every impressionable young girl should read before our beauty-obsessed culture gets to her, so she knows it's okay (nay, BETTER) to be ordinary. Some may consider this little classic to be outdated but I found it a wonderfully wrapped up package filled with beautiful imagry,a wonderful lesson, endearing characters and unique storytelling.

Sweet little book. I really loved it when I was younger- I don't remember much about Amy and the other characters now, but I still would recommend this book to kids between the ages of 7 and 12 or so. Older people will probably like it too :)
I don’t know how old I was when I read this as a kid (and enjoyed it) but I’m questioning my early judgment. While the story itself is alright, the book reads like it was published in 1930, not 1980. My main complaint is how beauty is portrayed again and again as white skin, blond hair, and blue eyes.
