What a solid, wholesome, and uplifting telling of the true life events of Tylene Wilson, who broke social norms and unapologetically rattled some cages by becoming Brownwood's first female football coach!
What I love about this book is that, even though it's a book about football, it's not a book about football. Sure, there's some terms in there that are definitely sports, but for someone like me who knows literally nothing about football, it was approachable and downright entertaining. You know those uplifting sports movies? How about that, but in book form, because that's exactly what this is.
I definitely recommend this book, even if you don't sports, because it gives you those feel good vibes by the end of it.

A true story of Tylene Wilson.
She became the first ever female high school football coach in Texas, while the men were gone to war. She did it to keep the boys from enlisting early and to give them a last year with their families. 3.5 stars

This is the book that kicked 2019 off for me. I throughly enjoyed reading the tale about an assistant principal who stepped up to coach a high school football team during WWII. She did what she believed in and though the town wasn’t fully behind her, through football, in the end, all was well. She believed in the boys when everyone was telling her she couldn’t do it and they wouldn’t support her. This book was relatively short but the author did a really good job with the details. I’d highly recommend this book for anyone who loves sports and for anyone who roots for the underdog!

Good homefront drama about a woman coaching a Texas high school football team while the men were at war and the resistance she faced.

This is a shorter book than I expected and it is not like your usual WW1 or WW2 reads. There is a war going on around them but this is a little snippet of the types of changes that were made while the men were gone off to war. I appreciate this side of it, we do not get too many of these. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this is based on a true story. I hope to find more of the other side of war stories.
