4.5 but I rounded up
Thanks Megan for the rec!!
Beautifully written, compelling, and personal. The only qualm I had was with her citing mice studies as if the factors had the same impact on humans.
Highly recommend

An honest and riveting memoir. Though incredibly personal in its content, it is told in a more journalistic style. I felt this added to the book, as it made it feel less woe-is-me and more outside-looking-in. Ironi ally ,Foo's long standing coping mechanisms of detachment and dissociation helped in getting me to connect with her story, whether she meant to or not.
I appreciated how she explains and expounds on how race impacts intergenerational trauma. I admire how she was so focused on healing, no matter how long it took. I especially liked how she includes audio from some of her sessions with Dr. Ham. It really helped pull everything together. (And that man is a genius!)

Best book I’ve ever read on PTSD hands down. What Stephanie Foo has endured is truly inspiring but her journey to accepting herself, her struggle with therapy, and the light she sheds on the Asian American culture as it relates to mental health is just captivating. I specifically loved the recordings she composed between her and Dr. Ham. Honestly, this book just reinforces my desire to go into psychiatric medicine. It was both fascinating and enlightening.
