Indiana Aaron is a woman in a man's world. She's an excellent computer programmer, but doesn't "look the part" to her male colleagues. When she shares her opinion to freely at work, she gets herself reassigned to a virtual-only team - who all mistake her for a man. Before she can correct the misunderstanding, she realizes that they are suddenly taking her work seriously, and that there are definite advantages to continuing the charade. Before long though, she's in a complicated romantic entanglement with a coworker, her chauvinistic boss is still trying to steal her work, her friends are creating an even bigger legend, and she's in way over her head.
A fun romantic comedy for readers that like quirky characters and a clean romance.

The premise was interesting, and the writing style was good, especially the inner monologues. But everything else was so over the top it was ridiculous, and the characters were not at all believable. And it's like the author threw GD in there just to push the point. I did not appreciate the language, and after reading the cover description I'm just really disappointed. The excerpt of another of her novels at the end of this one reads like much of the same. Will not read this author again.

I love this author’s talent to take subjects that could be too heavy and make them into entertaining stories. She can put a cute cover on a book about a serious issue. It looks cute, right? And it is cute. And it is funny. I laughed out loud a number of times. But it also features serious issues. In this book Indiana is dealing with a work environment that is incredibly sexist.
Indiana goes by Ana at work. She’s a tiny little thing and has big opinions. But when she opens her mouth about something unfair at work, she gets transferred to another department as punishment.
Ana’s new department is entirely remote. She doesn’t know her new boss. And after cautiously pointing out an error to her new boss, he thanks her instead of reprimanding her. And soon afterwards she realizes that he thinks she/Indiana is male.
And before Ana gets a chance to correct her new boss, her friends hilariously try to cover her identity up and only manage to make it impossible for her to dig herself out.
With a remote job where she never has to turn the camera on, how necessary is it for her to correct her boss’ assumption that she’s male? And when she realizes she’s getting treated much better because of it things get even harder.
I really just seriously loved this. I loved all the characters. I loved the storyline. I loved the levity.
I will definitely be recommending this book to others. I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

I absolutely loved this story! I laughed out loud in multiple parts, and one part in particular had me cackling. Any book that brings strong emotions out is a good read, in my opinion. This book brought out so many! I'd like to have a word with the office villain of this story. One of my favorite reads of the year!
Very focused on the sexism
Of it all while simultaneously dismissing all other issues of identity. And romance didn’t have chemistry or connection. And just didn’t get the lead character and their behavior. I expect it could have been more nuanced but…

Not Bad For a Girl is a fun take on a serious topic. Watching Ana navigate gendered workplace politics, first as the woman she is, then when she’s mistaken for a man (thanks to a zoom assist), is both frustrating and delightful in equal measure. I appreciated that Ryan decided to tackle this still-relevant issue, and that she did so without rendering the story too heavy, injecting plenty of humor and even a touch of romance along the way.
Jesse Vilinsky did an excellent job narrating the audiobook.
Thank you Anastasia Ryan, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for providing this ALC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.

Indiana “Ana” Aaron, a talented coder and IT specialist, didn’t fit in this man’s world. Her honesty frequently got her in trouble, which saw her transferred to a remote work team. When she pointed out her boss’ mistake, to her surprise, her assertiveness was praised, because the boss thought she was a “Mr”. Thus, the alter ego “Indiana” was born, and Ana couldn’t even stop the legend to take over.
My gosh, I LOVED this rom-com! I work in IT, so I felt this book was written especially for me! I laughed out loud at the familiarity of it - sadly, a lot of the challenges Ana faced in this book really happen in real life!
Yes, it was a bit far fetched in places. But I didn’t care! I felt seen reading this. I laughed at the jokes (I even read aloud some paragraphs to my husband, who also works in IT!), I was heartbroken when Ana was, and I cheered for her till the end. I’d love to see more techie women featured in stories.
The audiobook narration was also good. It was upbeat, fun and well delivered! I reckon some of the jokes worked extra well on audio, as I chuckled out loud a few times.
Did I just find a new favourite author?!
