These books were some of my favorites when I was in high school. I read this in 1997. My notes then were: "Excellent artwork, as well as a compelling story. Easy read, but fascinating and unique."

Brilliant but definitely a cliff hanger. Haha almost to the point of upsetting me! Apparently their at least two other books in the series. Where the heck in the world is Paolo? This isn't a real place. I need to get the next book.

I only read the book because I was intrigued by the ending of the first one. And also that it is a very pretty book.
But the illicit feeling that say you get when you open the envelopes and feel like you are reading someone else's letters while reading in this book, that feeling very very overrated. Its just a very pretty book. Not much in terms of story and all.

Kind of unsatisfying. The mystery is never going to be revealed, obviously. But who cares? Life is full of things we never know for sure. The gorgeous art and the faux correspondence and the sheer inventiveness of the book counts for more than the plot. I enjoyed the series.

I shared the reading with Discoverylover and Wombles, and I was absolutely charmed to see that Discoverylover had hung the books up on her wall like pieces of art. Which, of course, they are!

For a "conclusion" to a trilogy, this book is really lacking. I just don't get the hype. Griffin himself says it best: "To tell the truth, I don't know about the story, but I quite like the pictures."
