Surprised that I actually think the movie is better. This book just gets overcomplicated. I still liked it, but not a favorite.

Everybody in the family gets love at first sight? Blech.

I mean… it’s a classic for a reason! I still love the film, which is a childhood favourite, but I prefer the book. And will happily read it again (and again). It’s delightfully dark in places and, as I was pleasantly surprised to find our, the original is much more adult than the film. A great read!

I am very torn on this book. While I really enjoyed the story, I could not get behind the way in which this book was written. It just seemed to continuously drag on. I’m glad I picked this up, but I’m not sure when I’ll get around to the other books.

I think I got my hopes up for Practical Magic. I was expecting a lot more witchiness and magic than what was in the story. The magic was there, but it was subtle and felt undefined. It's more a story of the sisters, their bonds, and their relationships than anything else. The relationships all felt like love at first sight, which I didn't find particularly enjoyable. I found myself wanting a lot more details, a lot more world-building, and more of an ending. I don't really recall what the ending even was. I was expecting to have 30-40 more pages, but then it just stopped.

I enjoyed it, but I think my expectations got the best of me on this one.

“Always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder. Keep rosemary by your garden gate. Add pepper to your mashed potatoes. Plant roses and lavender, for luck. Fall in love whenever you can.”

After all those years, I've finally read this book!
