Nossa! "Seventeen looks good on me. I'm practically an adult now, thank God, because I can't rely on my mother to raise me anymore. // "We needed to talk." "You didn't talk. You had sex. I can tell. I'm an expert now."

Spoiler ..... "I'm confident I'll never spend a single second of my life regretting you." (Morgan para Jonah)

I had to read this for a book club after telling myself I’d never read her books. Im not a fan of her writing style, it seemed like more of a YA book when it wasn’t intended to be. Also the plot was boring and predictable I knew what was going to happen without even having to read the entire book.

This book is plot driven with shallow character development. The most dramatic events happen, whether or not it is believable or makes sense for the characters. I got 75% through and had to give up.

Ooh I’m so conflicted because the story itself was a 4-star read but there’s just something about Colleen Hoover’s writing style that i just can’t fuck with. Like all her books feel kind of childish, and there’s a lot of telling in my opinion. I think there was a sentence that literally said, “I’m drunk, so my judgement is impaired.” I feel like if she wanted to write that from a drunk person’s pov, then she wouldn’t have outright said that. I don’t really think drunk people are aware that their judgement is impaired, but idk its not like I speak from experience.

But other than that i think this was the juiciest story I’ve ever read. It seemed like there was a new turn of events every 25 or 50 pages in the beginning. The mom and daughter relationship evoked a lot of emotion from me, partly because Clara, the daughter, was so annoying to her mom. But it felt so real. I reallllyy liked Miller as a love interest for Clara. He was sweet and kind and i wish he was real. And that epilogue was soooo good i thoroughly enjoyed it.

So all in all a quick read, kind of boring at times but definitely got emotions going. I just can’t seem to connect to Hoover’s writing style, but that won’t stop me from picking up her other books.

CoHo does it again. This one is REALLY good. And as someone who has a daughter, this one tugged at my heartstrings. It was romantic but also devastating and heartwarming all at the same time. 10/10 recommend. 5⭐️
