Some Baum-esque touches, but a bit boring at times (Baum could be boring too). The Oz books are often more episodic, adventure to adventure, while continuing the main quest, and this was just a couple of plot points that went on waaaaaay too long. The sisters, descendants of Dorothy, weren't all that interesting as characters, but Smith does try to give them personalities and depth.
