Literally one of my favorite books of all time. I loved the way it was written, it tickled my brain and when I finished it, I scoured the Internet for more books like this. It got me into historical (realistic) fiction and I’m wanting to reread it soon.
When I read this book, I felt so comfy and safe I don’t know how to even describe it, it was written in a diary format of a girl from the early-early 1900s and girlhood and maturing is a big focus. I want everyone to read I loved it so much.

I loved this book so much, I read it in 24 hours! Though Joan and I have different personalities, and I found myself questioning her decision making skills, I felt connected to her as a character through her period of adaptation after she moved to Baltimore.
I found it hilarious that Joan created an alternate persona for herself, Miss Janet Lovelace who’s eighteen years old. This is something I would never have the guts to do, especially because it got her even more entangled in the web of lies she had spun.
