Read this out of nostalgia, and because it fit a reading challenge I'm doing. When I was in middle school I loved Augusten Burroughs - it was hard to find out gay people especially who also discussed having a dysfunctional family and dealing with mental illness. But God I'm glad things have gotten better. This has not aged well and there is a lot of stuff in this that is pretty offensive. It's not really mean spirited, but very much in the way of the Old Clueless White Dude spouting the same terrible shit that he grew up with in the 70s without a second thought. No thanks.
