The art style! I love it! I've missed the Shades of Magic world so damn much.

This was an interesting experience, I'm not a big fan of comics (unless it's a queer contemporary) so my main qualm with this book is the format for fantasy was difficult for me to get into. The art is fantastic but I feel it is much harder to get to know the characters when they're written in a comic format and the story feels like it goes so quick and misses a lot. Having said that this is only the first volume and probably the beginning of Maxim's story and I will absolutely be continuing to collect the bind ups as they are released!

The above criticism is also very personal to my preferences, and shouldn't reflect poorly on the actual book in any way!

Isra is absolutely my favourite character and I can't wait to see more of her! I'm also very interested to see if it changes my feelings about Maxim!

Yes, I only read this cause I wanted to finish out the year with an official 220 books, but honestly it’s been on my TBR for a while and I’ve been craving some good quality Red London adventures lately.
While Maxim is much different than Kell and this adventure was quite short, the magic illustrations were super cool and the story was quite intriguing. Maxim was never a character I cared much for in the original books, but I can safely say that I have a newfound respect for him. Hopefully I’ll finish off this graphic novel prequel series soon.

This was a fun taste of the Shades of Magic series a few years after reading it. I'm glad I picked this up.

I love the shades of magic world but this graphic novel went too fast and was hard to understand/pick up on the drawings and the story they were trying to tell
