Best Nerds Forever by Chris Grabenstein, James Patterson

I think I was expecting more of a mystery? Or like, some way he could communicate with his friends to solve his death? The story was classic middle grade with male protagonist (complete with fart jokes, video games, and being borderline creepy about girls). I'm 100% not the target audience for this, I was intrigued by the major plot points (of the main character starting off dead and trying to figure out who killed him) but it was kinda boring and the epilogue was, I think a failed attempt at a happy ending? Like I guess, but how? Why? I guess I was hoping for more of a mystery/adventure. Again, not the target audience. I think middle grade kids (and kids who like James Patterson) would defiantly enjoy this book, even though it was, I think, a little heavy obviously with the main characters being dead. I just wish it was handled a bit better and made a bit more exciting.

This was surprisingly VERY disappointing from these two authors. I expected some humor or a good old fashioned ghost story or something more meaningful and instead this was a too-long story about regrets. I can't imagine how to sell this to students.

Grades 5 and up.

DNF at 30%.

I’ve been holding off on reviewing this until I got my thoughts right about it…

It just wasn’t the book for me. It had a spark of interest, then it just flatlined a bit too much for me.

Now… just because this is my rating DOES NOT MEAN I find it to be a horrible book or that I find the writing to be horrible or anything like that. It just wasn’t FOR ME.

It may DEFINITELY be for someone else and I hope that others enjoy it. I, unfortunately, wasn’t able to.

I really loved the book and was about to give it 5 stars. The ending really ruined it.
My recommendation, skip the last chapter.

Thoroughly enjoyed this up until the ripoff ending. It showed a true lack of belief in children and undermined so much of the grieving process. Felt too Narnia-esque for me.
