It was perfectly informative while being direct and concise. Stays interesting by using stories to present large chunks of information. It delivered on the mysterious lure that draws me to the topic so much, and also taught me a lot of new things, inspiring me to do my own research into the subject.

A phenomenal and informational walk through the myriad of ocean ecosystems and their importance in sustaining life on our planet. I appreciated that each chapter had a lot of information on the current and historic state of the ecosystem, acknowledging what we don't know yet, followed by a feeling of hope and a concrete of example of how humans have "saved" that ecosystem somewhere. The overall feeling is hopeful and the driving thesis is that we humans have work to do, not only in changing our policies, but also our perspective on the ocean as a resource and our collective will to drive improvement: the ocean can recover if we give it the space and time to do so.

I loved it, I learnt so much (filling my notebook with all of these ocean facts). Like all my books lately, I just wanted to travel to all these places, especially Papāhanaumokuākea.
This book will give you a deep appreciation for our oceans, and truly highlight the fact that we urgently need to protect them. I did feel that there was this powerful undertone of melancholy throughout (which is understandable), but of course there was hope too.
I just think more people need to realise how truly spectacular our oceans are.
