The Tea Ladies of St Jude’s Hospital is a delightful, feel-good story with flawed, but loveable characters. The story lines are somewhat predictable, but nevertheless, engaging and most enjoyable. A heart-warming novel which will ‘spark joy’. The addition of a complimentary tea bag was a welcome and cheering surprise. Thanks to Joanna Nell, Better Reading and Hachette Australia for the ARC.
Hilary runs the volunteer cafe at St Jude’s Hospital. This is a role she takes seriously, especially since she doesn’t have a lot else happening in her life after separating from her husband and moving in with her sister.
Joy is on trial working in the cafe, and absolutely loves it - even if the way she works isn’t quite up to Hilary’s standards. She ends each day going home to her husband and a G & T.
Chloe is in year 12, and, being the daughter of two surgeons, is expected to go into medicine. She volunteers at the cafe to help her career prospects.
While an odd trio, they come together when faced with the prospect of the cafe closing. Through this, they are forced to reflect upon their lives and make some big decisions.
Joanna Nell has done it again! I absolutely loved this book. I was really invested in the characters and loved reading about them, especially the combination of slightly eccentric Joy and stickler Hilary! It is a witty book that touches on deeper issues. I can’t wait to read even more by the author.
Thanks to Hachette for the review copy!
