The story could have been good, but it felt too rushed. Scenes were cut off too early, and the suspense didn't have enough time to build up. I would have liked to see more danger, but everything happened in a blur, and then it was over. Also, the intimate relationship between our heroes was abrupt and not quite believable. More time should have been taken with this.

Hairstylist and detective met over a murder and instantly got off the wrong foot, and stayed there despite a hot ONS. Josh is bold, sassy and prickly; Gabe is a hot, smart and tenacious. Their connection is instant but the actual romance is burns slow (despite sexing it up quick) as Josh was burned once. Even so, his judgemental attitude towards Gabe is frustrating (esp in the prequel).

Their romance is fun and sexy, plenty of UST, snark, emotion and hot sex. Josh's hot and cold can be annoying, and the switch between sex and feelings (for both of them) felt abrupt at times. I admired Gabe's patience though! The mystery is decent, and the little town and its people are fun. Definitely continuing!

I want that bird!

OMG, Savage was a killer addition to this story. I forgot about him being in the last series and am so glad you brought him back.

I love how all you books intertwine the same players and we get different insights into their pasts.

You are a brilliant author and I look forward to reading all your musings.

Great mix of romance and mystery. I liked that it was not insta-love, and that the pair had already met when we begin the story. Great characters with a lot of depth. Josh's sass is the best. The mystery takes a backseat, but it wasn't too obvious, so there was still opportunity to take your guess throughout the story.

4. 25⭐

This is only my second Aimee Nicole Walker story, and having just read and loved Ground Zero, I was keen to check out her earlier series and consequently I decided to give this one a go. And I have to say, I really loved it and the prequel Fatal Reaction. As both were well paced, well written, enjoyable stories. And I genuinely liked the blend of detective mystery and m/m romance. Plus, the characters were interesting, likeable and certainly have scope to progress. But I did feel the mystery aspect was lacking suspense, and the story got a little bogged down with the constant to and fro between hair salon owner Josh and detective Gabe. Nevertheless, every aspect of the story was absorbing, and I did find it extremely hard to put down. Not to mention I'm intrigued to discover where this couple and series goes next.

Would happily recommend.

This book pressed so many buttons in a good way.
Review to come

There is a FREE PREQUEL that you don't need to read but I would recommend reading it simply because it's mentioned briefly and if you're anything like me you'd be annoyed. I felt like I didn't truly start the story from the "beginning" so of course I immediately downloaded the prequel before continuing :)

Anyway, I absolutely adored this story. It was just what I needed to brighten my day.
The MC's Gabe and Josh have become a new favorite couple of mine.

Poor Detective Gabe is your typical tall, dark and handsome. He gets tongue tied whenever he's around Josh, a quick witted smart mouthed stylist. Josh is a self-described out and proud effeminate spitfire who takes crap from no one. Least of all Gabe. An unfortunate first time, bad impression meeting set the course for how Gabe and Josh interact whenever they see each other... Meaning Josh does whatever it takes to make poor Gabe miserable :)I like the romance, the cute cat and mouse chase. I like the tension and heat between them. Both these guys are so likable and funny in their own way. Josh and his parrot are beyond over the top funny. Gabe is adorable as he attempts to change Josh's opinion of him.

Walker did an excellent job keeping the story fun and upbeat despite the gruesome, twisted murder case Gabe is trying to solve. The murder case and all its twists and turns did take away from the story somewhat but not enough to affect my reading enjoyment. If you're looking for a good dramedy, I highly recommend reading this one. This is one of those books you either love it or hate it. I'm one of the lucky ones that love it!

Writing was bad, needed editing, and the story was way too dramatic

I didn't love this one. Josh was obstinate and obnoxious for most of the book. Gabe was sometimes childish and a glutton for rejection. The mystery was okay. It was all just okay. I've read in other reviews that the series improves a lot after this first installment. I think I'll give book 2 a shot. Joel Leslie did a nice job narrating the book.

3 for the writing, 4 for the characters. I loved Josh, prickly grump and all. I loved the nicknames he gave to other characters. I loved Gabe. There were some editing and writing errors that distracted me but overall, I thought it was a cute book and the sex was hot.
