Ok, after a few days to process I know how I feel about this book. It is a bit slow rolling at first, but when it picks up it goes quick. I have a few pet peeves about this book though, bare in mind I was listening to the audio book instead of reading it so things could have been lost in translation
1: for some reason they were worried about having to take in refugees from the natural disaster when it seemed they were pretty much in the middle of it
2: I feel like the natural disaster is forgotten the minute the Sasquatch is introduced
3: I get it’s supposed to be a fish out of water scenario with a bunch of city yuppies being stuck fighting against nature but GOD the characters were so helpless and ridiculous some times it made it unbearable to listen to
4. The ending made 0 logical sense, I am all for suspending disbelief when it comes to horror novels but Palomino and Kate’s grand adventure is so off character from what we read so far in the book that I couldn’t understand the choice
It was a fun read and I wouldn’t turn anyone away from reading it, but I won’t be picking it up again.

Max Brooks has a cynical, but pragmatic view of humanity (perhaps all life): prepare for the worst, and assume everything is constantly probing for your weak points in order to take advantage of you.
As for the book itself - it was okay. His disdain for people preaching utopia through technology while ignoring its downsides was quite heavy handed and led to thin characters.

- When it shined most was describing the Sasquatch’s and fight scenes. I really enjoyed where it jumped around to reports and stuff about apes and evolution but otherwise it kinda falls flat on most of the other stuff and doesn’t keep my attention.
