I would have loved if this book was longer, but the design of the story is still fully fleshed out and left me satisfied with the ending. I enjoyed the story a lot.

A page turner, but not really the kind of book I was hoping for. I love the mystery and fear of the unknown associated with cryptids like Bigfoot. Max Brooks did not capture that well. The essence of Bigfoot is his elusiveness, and that was quickly lost as they appeared over and over again. I enjoyed the little hints and fleeting encounters early on, but it quickly devolved 🤣 into action and fights at which point the creepiness was lost.
Brooks didn't utilise the journal entry structure to its potential, everything was just written as lengthy first person POVs. It actually harmed the story because a) a lot of suspense is lost when you know the narrator goes on to journal about what is happening and b) I had to suspend disbelief that she would continue writing these incredibly detailed entries in a tense survival situation. In general the characters never seemed to react appropriately to how bad things got.
Despite those flaws, it was fun and I couldn't put it down. Would work well as a low budget direct-to-streaming movie.

The middle was interesting but at the end of the day I cannot take bigfoot stories seriously
