This book was so good. Not something I would typically read but it kept me on the edge of my seat. It is a bit gory but I highly recommend it.
Halfway through and I’ve cut bait. The plot conforms to every monster-threat-disaster-how-do-we-cope B movie that I’ve ever seen. Most of the screen time of those films is committed to various characters standing around talking about themselves. One’s a rationalist who wastes time explaining science, one’s a frightened alarmist, another is the courageous one who gets things done. The narrator is you, the witness who is willing to do the right thing if a righteous leader would step up.
It’s not giant ants, creeping blobs, or killer aliens this time, it’s Sasquatches.

Such compelling writing, but so many plot holes and an unsatisfying/unrealistic ending. Blerg!

I love Brooks' style of writing books as quasi-history. I'm a sucker for pretend-real-world. Maybe because also right now, real-real-world is truly a shitshow.
Anyway. This book is just a fuckton of fun. With genius literary smell-o-vision. May I never smell a real Sasquatch. I won't, because I'll be dead in a nanosecond.

A really fascinating read. Sets up a lot of suspense, and functions as such a timely commentary on the culture of covid. Great characters and such a brilliant attention to detail.
this wasn't bad. but i feel like it had a lot of missed potential.
